If you’re not watching Winning Time, you should be watching Winning Time. The HBO drama which chronicles the rise of the Lakers as a dominant franchise in the NBA in the early 80s released its second episode last night directed by Jonah Hill. Pop cinema in the form of an anthology series, the show’s razzle dazzle underdog story is a wicked good time even if you’re not a proponent of basketball or sports in general.

Last night during a scene in which Lakers owner Dr. Buss, played magnetically by John C. Reilly meets Celtics legend Red Auerbach (a crotchety Michael Chicklis in his most memorable incarnation in years), the legendary Mike D from Beastie Boys played a DJ named Billy at Chasen’s, a steakhouse and hangout spot frequented by the A List in West Hollywood.

As the location is established, Mike D is spinning… Dean Martin. Dr. Buss delivers a tip before confirming his requests will be played, which qualifies as anything by The King of Swing, Louis Prima. Billy commends the choice.

Elsewhere, we see the logo Jerry West have sex with a stranger, Kareem Abdul-Jabarr reading civil rights literature, and Gabby Hoffman’s Claire Rothman trying to fill more nights at the Forum by scheduling the premiere of Rocky II. If that’s not enough to sell you on Winning Time, then just wait to see the Lakers start winning titles with Magic, Kareem, and Pat Riley who will be played by Academy Award winning actor Adrien Brody.

Winning Time is on Crave and HBO MAX on Sundays at 9/8 [est].
